The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
This much anticipated album has yet to disappoint. Despite how different and ambitious it is, it remains extremely approachable. Often feeling like an experimental adaptation of a led zepplin album, its the indie rock album you can buy your dad for fathers day without worry.
Vocally its one of the most impressive albums i’ve heard in a really long time. Longstreth’s has the voice i think i have while i’m signing to myself in the shower. On first listen it sounds rough and unpolished but as you get used to it you hear a refinement few can match. Coffman and Angel can do things with their voices i didnt think were possible. I first heard a lot of these songs performed live at the Housing Works show with Bjork and I have to say if you can see them live do it you wont be disappointed. Before bjork came up they played half a dozen songs on their own from this album and watching those girls make those noises live makes the entire album that much more impressive.
While some bands lately play with tempo and structure just for the sake of it and often end up with songs that are over the place and feel all over the place. This album jumps around even within the same song but you feel a strong structure bringing it all together.
Its not the kind of album i want ot rip apart, if your going to listen to one song you should listen to them all.
I expect this one to remain in regular rotation for a while
